Why The Spanish Academy?

Spanish Teacher With ChildThe Spanish Academy is Alpharetta's first Spanish preschool. It is a Total Immersion Preschool offering an excellent academic curriculum with a low student to teacher ratio. Our goal is to offer an outstanding curriculum with a high level of academic excellence while helping children master proficiency in Spanish. Our lead teachers are native speakers so our students learn to speak Spanish with a native tongue.

The Total Immersion Method

Preschooler Boy Learning SpanishTotal Immersion is a method of foreign language instruction in which the regular school curriculum is taught through the medium of a foreign language. The foreign language is the vehicle for the content instruction not the subject of instruction. This method involves immersing children into a foreign language in a fun and exciting environment. "The Total Immersion Method is the most effective way of developing foreign language proficiency". ERIC

What are the advantages?

Preschooler Girl Learning SpanishChildren who have been exposed to a foreign language early often learn to read faster and with greater ease because they are able to recognize the relationship between letters and their sounds without the help of visual objects. Exposure to a second language clearly benefits children’s reading abilities. American Psychological Association May 1997

Children who learn a second language typically have better problem solving abilities, better reasoning skills, and are more creative. ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages & Linguistics

Children with bilingual skills outperform similar monolingual children on both verbal and non-verbal tests of intelligence and typically, have higher SAT or standardized test scores. Department of Education, USA & ERIC Clearinghouse on Languages & Linguistics

Children who have learned a foreign language have higher levels of self-confidence.
Bilingual children have better cognitive skills than children who have not been exposed to a second language.

Exposing children to a second language not only gives them the ability to communicate with more people but also teaches them to appreciate and respect other cultures and people that are different from themselves.

Knowing a second language also gives people a competitive advantage in the workforce.

As you can see, all of these are compelling reasons to encourage the development of a second or third language in your child!!
